Pathways

Our students are highly successful in gaining the skills and qualifications needed to reach their goals for the next phase of their learning, be it for life in Phase Three, moving into the workplace or other education or training routes.

In order to prepare students for this they follow a broad and balanced curriculum beginning their qualifications in Year 9. There are two main pathways that students follow but regardless of this the vast majority of students study the following core elements:

Maths & Maths Statistics GCSE English & English Literature GCSE Science – Triple or Double GCSE Religious Studies GCSE History or Geography GCSE Core PE GCSE

In addition to the above students following the English Baccalaureate pathway will study a Modern Foreign Language to GCSE level as well as having two optional subjects at either GCSE or BTEC Level 2.

Students on the Modern Baccalaureate pathway will study two optional courses at either GCSE or BTEC Level 2 and a third directed practical based subject.

All students are given IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) on the process of moving into Phase Two at the academy. This helps them to adjust to the demands of beginning qualifications and to choose their optional subjects.

The majority of examinations take place at the end of Year 11 although some courses do complete, and are examined, at the end of Year 10. The IAG process which takes place in the Spring term will provide more specific guidance on this.
