Christian ethos & values

Why are our Christian values so important?

Our values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility run through all aspects of academy life and are often described as our ‘DNA’. Although our admissions policy highlights how we welcome students of all faiths and none, these values relate to everyone, regardless of faith or background. They are values that will support students throughout life and our celebration of the importance of these on a daily basis is what makes the academy unique.

Our Church School vision enables staff and students to stay focused and achieve incredible things within our Christian environment.

We are an ‘outstanding’ academy which provides opportunities and overcomes barriers in order to change lives. We provide quality first teaching to ensure that all students flourish and fulfil their potential, thus opening doors to their future. We are a Christian community and promote the values of empathy, honesty, respect and responsibility, which are at the heart of everything we do. We want our students to leave us prepared for adulthood with Christian values instilled within them and following the teaching of ‘whatever you do, work at it with all your heart’. Our students will be resilient, outstanding members of the community and will learn from the best.

Vertical tutoring and the daily reading of our Academy Prayer provide particular focus areas for reflecting upon our four core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Based around our four values, the prayer is read by the whole academy on a daily basis as part of our two-minute silent reflection/worship time.

A team of 17 student leaders are appointed each academic year to provide support to our Chaplain, pastoral staff and students.  They are on the ground spiritual ambassadors.  They play a central role in the academy and so we feel it important to share the team structure and their job roles with you.

Our warm, friendly, and calm atmosphere is often commented upon and our Christian vision and values are key to our successful academy community.  We review, analyse and update our Church of England self-evaluation statement throughout the academic year and we firmly believe that what we do is ‘excellent’. This was recognised during our 2019 Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) assessment.  The inspector commented: “The academy’s Christian values are deeply embedded and make a profound impact on the way in which pupils develop into confident and mature individuals”.
