Christian Ethos and Values

Christian Ethos and Values

Trinity Academy Halifax is Calderdale’s only Church of England Secondary School. Our uniquely Christian ethos and values allows every student, regardless of their faith background, space to explore their own beliefs and celebrate who they are. Everything we do as a community is based on the belief that each member should “use whatever gifts they have received in order to serve others” (1 Peter 4:10), from shoebox collections at Christmas and litter picking around the local area, to ensuring that no student is left behind in the classroom.

To explore this further we use our Trust values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, whether in collective worship, daily Vertical Tutoring time (during which students read our school prayer and have time to silently reflect on these values), and throughout the school day.

All our staff and students are involved in ensuring that this vison is implemented throughout our community, with our school chaplain and our Student Leaders (appointed each academic year) playing a central role.

Vision

Every Individual: Every Opportunity.

This stems from the academy’s relentless focus on helping every student meet their potential both academically and in character driven learning. We strive to have students who will “cross over the road” and use their gifts to help others

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace

(1 Peter 4:10)

Actions that open doors, consistency keeping them open.

Empathy – that we may have compassion for others and sensitive to their feelings. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Eph 4:32)

Honesty – that we may tell the truth, do the right thing, and be trusted by other people.

Love does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. (1 Cor 13:6)

Respect – for ourselves, for others and for the world, that we may treat people equally and earn respect from them.

Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. (1 Thess 5:13)

Responsibility – that we may make the right choices, do all things to the best of our abilities and succeed in our goals and ambitions.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Gal 6:9)
