Our students are highly successful in gaining the skills and qualifications needed to reach their goals for the next phase of their learning, be it for life in Phase Three, moving into the workplace or other education or training routes.
In order to prepare students for this they follow a broad and balanced curriculum beginning their qualifications in Year 9. All students study the following subjects:
In addition to the above students also choose three options subjects from three different options blocks. The blocks are as follows:
Option 1 – ICT facilitating Option (IT or Enterprise)
Option 2 – Creative Option (Art, Photography, Performing Arts, Dance, or Sport)
Option 3 – Vocational or Academic Option (French, Spanish, RS, History, Geography, Product Design, Hospitality and Catering, Health and Social Care or Sport)
All students are given IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) on the process of moving into Phase Two at the academy. This helps them to adjust to the demands of beginning qualifications and to choose their optional subjects.
The majority of examinations take place at the end of Year 11, although some courses do complete, and are examined, at the end of Year 10. The IAG process which takes place in the Spring term of year 8 will provide more specific guidance on this.
